A pilot in England fell ill and became unconscious during a flight and the only one to land the plane was a passenger with instructions over the radio. The BBC's Andy Moore has more on the story.
Surrounded by emergency vehicles, a light aircraft safely on the ground at Humberside Airport. A full emergency alert 1 has been declared as a pilot made a mayday call and then fell unconscious. It was left to the passenger to land the aircraft, which eventually did after three or four attempts.
There're a fewsparks during 3 or 4 crashes.I almost felt the copilot hitting the floor then the all marched again and it came to stop.
It's understood the passenger may have had some experience of flying but he hadn't landed an aircraft before. A flying instructor 2 helped talking down on the radio.
It's a fantastic feeling knowing that I’ve achieved something and so probably saved somebody's life, cause I think without any sort told down that it is going to the ground.
The condition of the pilot who fell ill isn't known. His passenger is said to be a very relieved 3 man.
