Good morning. I am Melissa Long, at the CNN center in Atlanta. It's a Monday, the 26th of October. Here is a look at what's happening NOW IN THE NEWS.

President Obama has declared a national emergency concerning the flu virus, the H1N1. His order Friday night gives doctors and hospitals the OK to cut through government red tape so they can quickly act if things get worse. The CDC says already more than a thousand people in the US have died from H1N1.

Senate majority leader Harry 1 Reid could decide today on whether to push for the so called "public option". According to a senior aide, the proposal could establish federal guidelines for a government insurance program. But individual states would be allowed to opt 2 out.

Trial is set to get underway in Texas today for a member of polygamist sect 3. You may remember this case from a year and half  ago. 12 members were charged in the largest child custody 4 case in US history. More than 400 children were taken into state custody. Many of those children have since been returned. The sect is a breakaway of the Mormon Church.

Could be 3 months before Interstate 40 reopens near the Tennessee-North Carolina boarder? It was hit by a massive rockslide over the weekend. The troopers say some of the rocks are the size of a house, suggested detours 5 are gonna add about 60 miles, if you're traveling from Asheville, North Carolina to eastern Tennessee.

The Michael Jackson's CD--This Is It, is being released in much of the world today and in North America tomorrow. The release is the time to Wednesday's debut 6 of the movie of the same name. The 2-disc CD includes original masters of Jackson's biggest hits, new versions of classic tracks, the title track, just released as a single and the spoken word poem.

Those are the headlines for you this hour. Do stay with us here at CNN.com. Of course, you can follow CNN television for all the news that develops today.
