US military maybe broadly its strategy in fighting the ISIS terrorist group, listen to the statement made earlier this week by US Defense Secretary Ashton Carter.
We won't hold back from supporting capable partners in the opportunist attacks against ISIS or conducting such missions directly, whether by strike from the air or direct action on the ground. Those last three words on the ground getting a lot of attention. US is conducting air strike against ISIS for month , last year the Obama administration repeatedly said no US boots will be on the ground, meaning Americans will not be in direct combat with terrorist, but afterwards some US officials suggested that might be necessary to defend ISIS, now would appear US getting ready to put combat troops in action, the president and commander in chief of US military have not made final decision on this, the White House says it's one possibility being presented, ISIS says taking a large part of Iraq and Syria, Iraq government says it already has enough soldiers on the ground and doesn't want American or any other troops join in its fighting against ISIS. But Syria goes the situation is more complex, and the threaten to become a proxy war, when external countries face out indirectly by giving military assistant to different group they are fighting.
The civil war in Syria has becoming incredible complicated over the past 4 years, that because there are so many different groups fighting on the ground for very different reasons, but essentially you have 4 main contingencies, firstly you have Syria Amy which is loyal to the regime Assad, then you have ISIS which now control of large of territory in the east of the country, in the northwest, you have various Islamist group and also some moderate group who are fighting primarily against the regime but also against ISIS, and here in the northeast you have mainly Kurdish fighters with * or fighting against ISIS, all these different factions have different international backers, the regime is supported heavily by Russia and by Iran, the Islamist in the north and west of the country are supported by Saudi and Qatar. US also has given limited support to some of the moderate group to the northwest, but also to the YPG here in the northeast, recently Russia has dramatically increase their involvement in this complex launching, hundreds of air strikes on various rebel group that are fighting against the regime and also supply the Syria army with sophisticated weapons, US has responded by dropping 50 tons of ammunition to various group in this region that are fighting against ISIS, and Saudi Arabia has also accelerate the flow of the anti-tank missiles, it is supply to its Islamist aligns in north west of this country, Syria is automate becoming a proxy war, with all these different factions, focusing now on gaining the military advantage, very few are willing to come to the negotiating table.
