Nepal is wealing. Last Saturday’s earthquake was its worst natural disaster in more than 80 years. Nepal is poor country,it is just a little larger than the state of Arkansas,and 1/4 of its population was affected 1 by the quake.Officials now say at least 4,600 people were killed,9,000 were injured ,1million children are need of help.The Nepalese army says at least 90% of its 96,000 troops are deployed 2 in relief rescue operation.They are getting help from around the world.One aid organization says the hardest part is simply reaching the villages near the quake epicenter.
“62 -year-old X sits quietly away from rest of her family.It is as closed she can be towards was her home. XX on to the balcony when suddenly this part of building collapsed 3,trapping her.She did managed to call herself free and then called out through there.Someone helping 4 her off the embankment . The entire roof of this part of the home collapsed ,trapping her daughter XX who was freed as well.And right now, this is all that remained of the home she and her husband worked their entire lifes to build. “
Other families who lost everything took a wander by the side of road,unsure how they were rebuilt ,or even where to start.An old man seize to the rubble 5 ,looking for anything to salvage 6.We were just 30 kilometers about 20 miles from the capital ,but it takes 1.5 hour by car,a luxury ,most to live in the rugged 7 terrain don’t have.But at least it is accessible ,there are parts of Nepal so remote that takes days to reach under normal circumstances .Villages one can only get into on foot, it was those areas that was hardest hit,while aid has yet to arrive.While no one really know the full extent of human loss.
Some teachers email us about Maggie Doy ,a CNN heroine in character study from April 16th show. Doy opened a home school for kids in western Nepal were told they are all fine.School out there in Doy in the US ,but there is no significant damages to her homeschool in Nepal. They encouraging donations groups to help other parts of Nepal.
A state of emergency in eastern US city ,Baltimore , Maryland.The city ’s policeman department said as yesterday afternoon,at least 235 people had been arrested,at least 20 officers had been injured.Riots started there Monday, the same day is the funeral for a25-year-old African American man named Freddie Gray.He died under mysterious circumstances, following his arrest in mid-April.Many protestors blamed police.The first demonstrations 8 were mostly peaceful,but earlier this week,rioters burned cars and buildings,a senior center under construction of a church burned down.And schools were closed because officials didn’t think it was safe for children to be outside.The statement of emergency declared by Maryland’s governor on Monday night. Despite up the deployment 9 of national guard troops to Baltimore,the mayor impose a monitory curfew from 10 pm to 5 am.For the first time in baseball history ,a professional game were not be opened to public. Fans will be allowed to see the Baltimore Orioles play the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday .Monday and Tuesday’s Orioles games were postponed 10.The pastor who gave eulogy 11 in Freddie Gray’s funeral was one of dozens of religious leaders who came out and urged peace among the protestors. A number of residents joined them and tried to discouraged violence and cleared up the damage parts of this city.
