It's easy to get books these days.

We can borrow them from libraries,or we can buy them from bookstores.

There are libraries and bookstores in most towns.

Before the invention of printing,books were very rare and expensive.

People had to copy each page by hand.Then they had to bind 11 the pages together to make a book.

They often decorated their books with beautiful colored drawings.

Books like these were works 12 of art,but very few people were allowed to see them.

These days we can see them,but we have to go to museums.

About500years ago,a man in Germany named Gutenberg found a way to make books cheaper.

He carved letters of the alphabet out of wood.He set the letters in a frame 13,

put ink on the letters and pressed them on to a piece of paper.

This was the first printing press.Since then,printing has become faster and faster.
