[00:41.56]The Devil heard a soldier say to another soldier,
[00:47.60]'I'd rather work for the Devil than fight another war.' The Devil said,
[00:54.44]'Then you shall. I can give you everything.
[01:00.79]What do you want?' 'I want the same as all men gold and a beautiful wife.
[01:09.15]But what must I do for you?'the soldier asked.
[01:14.32]'You must not wash, shave,cut your hair,
[01:21.68]blow your nose or change your clothes for fifteen years,' the Devil said.
[01:31.12]The soldier agreed and the Devil gave him a bag of gold.
[01:37.75]He soon became very rich and famous.
[01:43.18]The king heard about the soldier,
[01:47.02]and sent for him. 'I need money,' the king said.'Will you lend it to me?'
[01:54.96]'You have three beautiful daughters,' the soldier said.
[02:00.53]'Let me have one of them for a wife and I lend you some money.'
[02:06.48]The king looked at the soldier.He was dirty.
[02:11.94]His hair was long. His clothes were old and torn and he smelled very bad.
[02:20.41]The king covered his nose with a handkerchief and said,
[02:26.47]'My daughters must decide.'
[02:30.91]His eldest 2 daughter came into th room and looked at the soldier.
[02:37.07]'I'd rather sell myself to the Devil than marry him,' she said.
[02:44.21]His middle daughter came into the room and looked at the soldier.
[02:49.46]'I'd also rather sell myself to the Devil than marry him,' she said.
[02:56.22]Then the youngest daughter cam into the room.'I want to help you,father,'
[03:03.80]she said,'I will marry this man.' While she was speaking,
[03:10.85]the soldier's fifteen years of service to the Devil came to an end.
[03:18.30]The Devil appeared. 'You are free.' he said.
[03:25.24]He poured some water over the soldier's head.
[03:30.21]He was suddenly clean and handsome and wearing fine clothes.
[03:38.36]Then the Devil turned to the two older princesses.
[03:45.20]'But you two must now work for me,'he said.
