The Transport Workers Union has lost acourt battle with Qantas over industrial action by baggage handlers two years ago. Mining giant BHP Billiton is expecting a decision this year from Federal and state governments on the proposed expansion of uranium and copper 2 mine in South Australia's north.The expansion would create up to 10,000 jobs. The mine contains the world's biggest known uranium deposit and also produces copper and gold.
The eurozone's economy has recorded better-than-expected growth in the first quarter of the year. The economy grew by 0.8%. That's up from 0.3% the previous quarter. Germany was largely responsible. It grew 1.5% driven by strong domestic demand.
And the local share market was boosted by those better-than-expected economic growth figures out of Europe.
