The long-running Mr Men book series turns 40 this week. The very first Mr Men character was Mr Tickle 1. The long-armed bright orange character was created by author Roger Hargreaves in 1971. He got the idea when his six-year-old son asked “what does a tickle look like?” Next came Mr Greedy, Nosey, Happy, Bump and Sneeze, which eventually led to four decades of children’s books and the TV series. The series has sold 120 million books worldwide.

Many artists have written blogs, including the Birds of Tokyo, Silverchair and Gotye, and Eskimo Joe did this animation 2.
