Australia's arts community is paying tribute to well-known actor David Ngoombujarra who died on the weekend. The 44-year-old was found in a park in Fremantle on Sunday and was pronounced dead at Fremantle Hospital. He was best known for his roles in the films of Rabbit-Proof Fence, Australia and Crocodile Dundee in Los Angeles. A member of the Stolen Generation, he won AFIs for his roles in Blackfellas, Black and White and The Circuit.
The ABC has started work on a comedy mini-series called At Home With Julia about the Prime Minister's relationship with her de facto husband Tim Mathieson. The series stars Amanda Bishop 1 as Ms Gillard and Phil Lloyd as Mr Mathieson. Production on the four half-hour episodes begins this week, with the shows to air later this year. Ms Gillard says she's not had any input 2 into the series, but she considers Bishop to be very funny.
And taxpayers 3 in Victoria paid up to $650,000 for talk show host Oprah Winfrey to take 92 guests on a three-day tour of Melbourne. Receipts released under Freedom of Information laws show Oprah was farewell from Melbourne with the dinner costing more than $100,000. It's reported to have cost $5 million to bring over the talk show host and her audience. But tourism analysts 4 say the exposure from the trip was more than worth the cost.
