The aftermath of Hurricane Irene is still being felt along the east coast of the United States. The death toll 4 has now reached at least 32 people. At least 23 people have died in mudslides in eastern Uganda. The slides were triggered by unseasonably heavy rain near the border with Kenya. Recent heavy rain has also caused flooding and displaced hundreds of people in the region.
Victoria's Parliament is rushing through tough new dog laws. It's all part of the State Government's crackdown on dangerous dogs after a four-year-old girl was mauled to death earlier this month. The new laws would give councils the power to destroy unregistered dogs that'd be deemed to be dangerous.
And ABC chopper pilot Gary Ticehurst will be remembered at a memorial service in Sydney today.
