To the finance now, and Greece is likely to get its next rescue payment of $11 billion. The money will be paid next month that is needed to ensure Greece avoids defaulting on its debt.
But a proposal to broaden Europe's stability fund is under threat. The Slovakian parliament looks likely to vote against it. Now without unanimous support from all 17 eurozone countries, the proposal could be delayed.
US President Barack Obama has conceded he may have to break up his jobs bill in the face of political paralysis 3 in Washington. The plan looks set to fail in the US Senate with Republicans refusing to back it and some Democrats 4 signalling their opposition 5. The $445 billion dollar plan is aimed at tackling America's 9 per cent jobless rate.
Let's check out the markets now: the Dow Jones fell 17 points overnight. The session just closed there. The NASDAQ rose 17; the S&P 500 down three. And across in London, the FTSE has shed three points.
Checking commodity prices: West Texas Crude is trading at 85 US dollars and 49 cents a barrel, Tapis crude's at 121 US dollars and 83 cents a barrel, and gold's at 1,664 US dollars and 29 cents an ounce. The Australian dollar is buying just under one US dollar, 73 euro cents and 63 pence sterling 6.
