 Police in New South Wales are scouring 1 bushland in the state's north for a man accused of shooting a senior constable 2. Malcolm Naden is wanted for the murder of his cousin and has been on the run for six years. The officer was shot when police swooped 3 on a campsite east of Tamworth yesterday, where Mr Naden was believed to be. The policeman was later released from hospital.


 
A new report has found that dental care is out of reach of millions of Australians and that it costs the economy more than $1.3 billion a year. The report calls on the Government to develop a dental plan for those on the lowest incomes. A separate yet-to-be-released report is also understood to validate 4 calls for a national dental healthcare scheme.
 
Ten credit unions and mutual 5 banks will pass on the Reserve Bank's interest rate cut in full, but there's still no announcement from the big four banks. The Treasurer 6 Wayne Swan says people should now vote with their feet and get the best deal elsewhere. The big four say their rates are still under review.
 
Syrian president Bashar al-Assad has denied ordering his troops to kill peaceful demonstrators. The president is under growing international pressure over a crackdown on nationwide anti-government protests. The United Nations says more than 4,000 people have been killed in the violence. But Mr Assad has told US television only a crazy leader would kill his own people.
