The government is pressing ahead with its emissions 1 trading scheme, reintroducing legislation into parliament for a third time last night. Former Opposition 2 Leader Malcolm Turnbull signaled he’ll vote for it. And the government is challenging other Coalition 3 MPs to join him. Tony Abbott’s selling as the alternative of 10 year, $10 billion climate change policy that will reward polluters for reducing emissions. The Prime Minister says it’s a ‘con job’, but Nationals Senator Barnaby Joyce says it will work because greed will drive the big polluters to cut their emissions.


 


In Britain, a former minister giving evidence at the Iraq war inquiry 4 says cabinet was misled into believing the war was legal. Former International Development Secretary Clare Short has accused Tony Blair of lying about the invasion of the Iraq. She says she was conned 5 into thinking the UN would play a lead role in post-war Iraq. Ms Short voted in favor of the 2003 invasion, but quit the government shortly afterwards.


 


And Continental 6 Airlines and five individuals have gone on trial for manslaughter in France over the Air France Concorde crash in July 2000. A hundred and thirteen people were killed when the jet plunged 7 into a hotel minutes after takeoff.
