The Thai government’s cracking down on those that it blames for causing the recent unrest in Bangkok. A Thai court has approved an arrest warrant for ex-leader Thaksin Shinawatra, accusing him of inciting 1 last week's protests. His lawyer Robert Amsterdam says the warrant is absurd and baseless. Meanwhile, Australian man Conor David Purcell has been arrested and may be charged with inciting violence.
It’s been revealed that former Liberal Prime Minister Malcolm Fraser has resigned from the Party that he once led. Mr. Fraser confirmed his decision to the Financial Review newspaper indicating he believes the Party is no longer a true Liberal Party but a conservative one. The newspaper says Mr. Fraser quit the Liberals in December.
Six Chinese nationals are still on the run from the Villawood Detention 2 Centre in Sydney. The Government’s criticized the private company Serco which runs the centre and says it may be fined over the escape.
There're concerns that the Australian share market could drop even further today. There were large falls across Europe overnight. London's FTSE fell by around 2.5 per cent. Wall Street also closed down. Yesterday, the All Ordinaries hit its lowest finish since August last year.
And North Korea says it will cut all relations with the South. That decision follows the release of an international report that blamed North Korea for sinking a South Korean warship 3, killing 4 46 sailors. Pyongyang denies it torpedoed 5 that ship.
