The Prime Minister Julia Gillard is facing growing opposition 1 to her plan to process asylum 2 seekers in East Timor. And a senior East Timorese politician says he doesn't want his country becoming a dumping ground for Australia's asylum seekers.


Suicide bomb attacks targeting pilgrims in Baghdad have killed 33 people and injured more than 100. One blast struck a crowd of Iraqi Shiite pilgrims on their way to a northern district shrine 3 for a major festival. Earlier a roadside bomb in Baghdad killed at least six worshipers.


Authorities from Moscow and Washington are reportedly negotiating a spy swap 4. The exchange will centre around 10 suspected Russian spies recently arrested in the US.


Britain has announced it will withdraw its soldiers from one of the most dangerous areas of Helmand province in Afghanistan. The British Defence Secretary Liam Fox says US forces will replace British troops in Sangin later this year. The UK has suffered its heaviest losses in the area with 99 deaths since 2001.


And Prime Minister Julia Gillard says she won't revive the Government's emissions 5 trading scheme until at least 2013. The carbon pricing policy was shelved after failed negotiation 6 with the Federal Opposition last year. Ms Gillard says she will revise the Government's climate change policy before the election.
