And New Zealand police are preparing to find no survivors 1 in the mine where 29 men are trapped underground. Two Australians are among the group, which has been stuck in the Pike River mine on the South Island since Friday. Rescuers will this morning resume drilling a hole to allow them to test the conditions below the surface.
Up to 300 people have been killed in a stampede in the Cambodian capital Phnom Penh. Hundreds of people were heading to the island to celebrate the end of the annual Water Festival. The death toll 2 is expected to rise.
Police have shot dead a man during an armed hold-up at a pub in Sydney's west. A second man was shot by police and is in a stable condition. Officers are now looking for a third man who fled the scene in a car.
No charges will be laid against a Queensland police officer over the death in custody 3 of Cameron Doomadgee in 2004. Queensland's Crime and Misconduct Commission says it won't recommend charges be laid against Senior Sergeant 4 Chris Hurley. Cameron Doomadgee died of massive internal injuries in the Palm Island watch-house. A third coronial inquest into the death delivered an open finding.
And the economic bailout has pushed the Irish government to crisis point with two main opposition 5 parties calling for an immediate 6 general election. Ireland has accepted a $120 billion bailout from the EU. The opposition parties want a new government which can map out a four-year austerity plan.
