Early Show national correspondent Hattie Kauffman found a surfer dude, who is a real doggie.

Summer in southern California means surfs up for everyone,(Hey,man)even the dog.

Wanna go to beach?

Buddy 1 is a very playful dog, and he is a family dog. He loves to play with the kids and us, and whatever we are doing, he wants to do it with us.

Buddy is an 8-year-old Jack 2 Russell terrier with lots of energy. He's been surfing the Ventura coast since he was two, astonishing everyone who sees him.

Watching a dog, surf, that's just amazing.

These kids are in surf camps, struggling to do what Buddy does naturally.

My first time's surfing I thought it was really hard. But I've seen that dog do it. It's like a thing that's really easy now.

Yeah, if a dog can do it, I can do it, right?

Yeah.

Yeah, the dog is surfing better than we can. (hehe, I know)

Buddy hopped 3 on the boards, started yelping 4, barking, balancing, my daughter grabbed the board, and he started to get very excited, and she pushed him into a wave, and that's how it all started.

You didn't actually set out to teach buddy how to surf.

Yet, now, not at all. I don't think you actually can do that with a dog. Once he got on the board, then he got the surf stoked. He decided 5 that it was something that he absolutely loved.

He is a versatile 6 surfer. He rides a body board, short board, and joins his owner on the long board.

He actually learned in the early days that's...ah,he had to get his center of gravity further back on the board. He's learned through wipeouts.That's ah,what,what it took to surf.

He is riding the wave to fame. But he's got magazine spreads, a sponsor, and an agent. Even the pros 7 are impressed.

He's a pretty good little surfer, yeah. He is right on the nose on that short board.

His owner told me he has the surf experience. What is the surf experience?

Ah..pretty much just being stoked, being, being happy with the wave and getting a good time.

So the dog is stoked.

Yeah, he's stoked.

Other dogs may sit up or fetch, this one hangs ten.
