The Routemaster bus with its "hop-on, hop-off" platform made its first appearance on London streets in the 1950s. It became a London icon 2 as famous as Big Ben and Buckingham Palace and at one stage there were almost 3000 in service. But they've been phased out to make way for modern, more accessible models. And not everyone is sad to see them go.
