U.S. President Barack Obama will make a historic visit to Hiroshima during a trip to Japan this month, the first by a sitting American president.
The White House says the visit is slated for May 27. Hiroshima is the site of the first U.S. nuclear attack at the end of World War II in 1945.
The White House says the visit will highlight Obama’s commitment to pursuing the peace and security of a world without nuclear weapons. Obama will be accompanied by Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, who has welcomed the upcoming visit.
