As efforts to salvage the ceasefire agreement shifted to Moscow, China's Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Hong Lei said a political solution is the only way to end the conflict in Syria.
"The recent escalation of violence in Syria has led to casualties. The ceasefire is very important in the push for a political solution to end the conflict in Syria. China hopes all parties will cherish the ceasefire and create a favorable environment for a political solution. A political solution is the only practical way to end the conflict. It is also the best way to ensure the Syrian people's fundamental interests and long-term peace in the region. China supports UN special envoy to Syria Staffan de Mistura's efforts to mediate between the warring sides and is willing to help to get all sides to resume talks soon," Hong said.
