Is Trump 1-Kim Summit Beginning of a New Era?
After months of speculation 2 and threats, US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un met in Singapore this week.
The two men held a 40-minute meeting, followed by the signing of a joint 3 statement in which they agreed to the complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.
Speaking at a news conference after the summit, Donald Trump said he had agreed to halt "inappropriate" military exercise with South Korea.
US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo briefed South Koreans, Japanese, and Chinese on Thursday about the outcome of the historic meeting.
Pompeo told reporters in Seoul that he expected major disarmament in North Korea before the end of President Trump's first term in office.
During his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, Pompeo conveyed Trump's appreciation 4 for the Chinese President's advice and help connected to the Korean Peninsula issue.
Xi congratulated Pompeo on the success of the Singapore summit, and says China continue to support denuclearization through dialogue.
