The first Penn Wharton China Summit has just concluded on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania.

In the closing speech, Cui Tiankai, China's ambassador to the United States, presented his views on the New Normal of China's economy by referring to his personal experience of scaling Mount Fuji in Japan.

"The China Dream is close at hand, of building a moderately prosperous society in all aspects and turning China into a modern socialist 1 country that is prosperous, strong, democratic, culturally advanced and harmonious 2, yet we still face some daunting 3 tasks and many unprecedented 4 challenges."

Those challenges and opportunities for China and its people, now and in the near future, were at the center of discussions among industry leaders, who came to talk to thousands of Chinese students studying in the US.

Lei Jun, CEO of China's Internet company Xiaomi, suggested students should adapt themselves to local business conditions at home, when they eventually return to China, in order to tap into the immense opportunities that, he feels, lie ahead.

"Now that you've all managed to be admitted by American universities, you must all be very capable young men and women.

But to succeed in business takes more than your abilities as individuals. Opportunity plays a vital part in this. I think the next 10 years is the best time to start a business in China, you will find more opportunities back in China than in the US."

The event was organized by a number students from the Wharton School who wanted to help their fellow students learn more about the current business landscape in China.

Jeoffrey Garret, Dean of the Wharton School, Pennsylvania University, praised the efforts of the student organizers.

"The relationships that we make, individual to individual, ultimately will add up, and they will make for not only a win-win, I think it is a win-win-win. Better US-China relations are better for China, they are better for the US, but they are also better for the world. So this event is a productive element in an engagement strategy that is bound to be good for us all."

Leaders from China's financial, real estate, art and movie industries, also attended the event and shared their own personal insights.
