Zeta-Jones is Cinderella for the Night 凯瑟琳是颁奖夜晚的灰姑娘

Catherine Zeta-Jones said she felt "like cinderella" after winning one of the night's biggest gongs at the Tony Awards on Sunday.

The Tony Awards are regarded as the highest US stage honour and are the theatre equivalent to the Oscars. The UK has similar awards known as the Laurence Olivier Awards.

The Mask of Zorro actress won the coveted 1 award for Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Musical, for her portrayal 2 of Desiree Armfeldt in the revival 3 of the 1973 musical A Little Night Music.

Catherine, who won an Oscar in 2003 for her performance in the film musical Chicago, was overjoyed at her win and said to the 3,000 plus crowd, "I can't believe it!" On stage she dazzled in a blue Versace gown and thanked her movie star husband of ten years, Michael Douglas.

After the awards the mother of two said she was "in a state of shock" and was astounded 4 at winning the award.

Her ongoing 5 performance in the musical is her Broadway debut 6 and has received rave 7 reviews from critics.

One critic described Catherine's performance as "bewitching, confident and utterly 8 natural" and another described her rendition as "captivating".

The win tops off an extraordinary week for the actress who has just been awarded a CBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours list, for services to the film industry and for her charity work.

To be awarded an honour from the Queen is very significant and only a small number of people are picked every year for their contributions to British life.

Some other Tony Award winners on Sunday were Scarlett Johansson, Denzel Washington, Viola Davis and British actor Douglas Hodge.

Ever the professional, on the night Catherine said "I'm losing my voice but I'll be back on stage on Tuesday, don't you worry".
