Chinese president Xi Jinping has issued a new call to increase the combat-readiness of this country's troops.
Xi Jinping, who is also the Chair of the Central Military Commission, also says greater civil-military integration 1 is needed.
The comments have been made while addressing deputies from People's Liberation Army attending the annual legislative 2 sessions in Beijing.
While China doesn't face any conflict situations at the moment, the country's military is frequently called on to help in emergency situations, such as natural disasters.
The ministry 3 of Public Security has issued a response to the death of a police officer in Shanghai this week, vowing 4 to "crack down" on anyone who violates the orders of police officers.
A police officer in Shanghai died this week after trying to stop a vehicle which had made an illegal left-turn at an intersection 5.
Instead of stopping, the suspect stepped on the gas, dragging the police officer for around 10-meters before he let go.
The 32-year old officer later died of head injuries.
