1.not...but rather phrase.
释义：used to say that one thing is not true but a different thing is true 不是……而是……
not…but和not…but rather都是“不是……而是……”的意思。但是but rather比but更强烈地表示与前分句的对比意味，rather 起加强语气作用。
例句：It's not always the truth that hurts, but rather the incorrect way you say it.
其实，事实并不总是伤人的，而是你用错误的方式讲述了这个事实。
but rather也可以单独拿出来用于肯定句，强调转折的语气。
He is fairly clever but rather lazy.
他很聪明，但也相当懒。
请看not...but rather...在美剧《绿箭》中的应用：
It's not what I want, but rather my employer.
2.endure verb.
释义： to be in a difficult or painful situation for a long time without complaining 忍受
例句：It seemed impossible that anyone could endure such pain.
应该是没有人能够忍受这种痛苦的。
在日常用语中，常用stand来代替endure，表示“忍受”的含义。
I couldn't stand the pain
我受不了这种痛苦。
