When you use your top-down attention to focus on something, your brain activates 1 inhibitory mechanisms 2 to block out competing stimuli 3. It can't do this forever, though; these mechanisms eventually tire just like the muscles in our body, and this leads to something called Directed Attention Fatigue 4.
当你运用由上至下的注意力，专注在某件事上时，你的大脑会启动抑制机制来阻挡其它会分散注意力的刺激物。不过，大脑也没办法永远持续这个状态。这种抑制机制就像我们身上的肌肉一样，终究还是会疲乏，而导致所谓的导向性注意力疲乏。
