1. Barack Obama says his 86-year-old grandmother has died. Madelyn Dunham who helped raise the Democratic presidential candidate died peacefully Sunday night after a battle with cancer. Obama said he learned of her death Monday morning while campaigning in Florida and said he planned to go ahead with campaign appearances.
2. Meantime, his rival John McCain is making a seven-state swing back to his Arizona home. At a stop earlier in Tennessee, the Republican presidential candidate told supporters (quote) "we are gonna win this election". McCain also vowed 1 to make the government live on a budget.
3. Police say five people were found shot to death Sunday in a homeless camp obscured by heavy brush. The shootings took place in the shadow of a freeway in Long Beach, California. Officers received an anonymous 2 tip. It was then they found the bodies of two women and three men. No word on a possible motive 3.
4. Hundreds of people gathered at the funerals of three of actress Jennifer Hudson's family members. Hudson's mother, brother and seven-year-old nephew were found shot to death more than a week ago.
