1. A gunman killed three apparent relatives and a veteran Los Angeles SWAT officer and wounded another officer in the face before police shot him to death. Authorities had been in a long standoff with the man during which his home erupted in flames. Two other officers were wounded in the incident.

4. Germany's new celebrity 3 has grown its first teeth. Flocke is the baby polar bear that has won the country's heart. She has yet to make her public debut 4, so people would just have to settle for these photos.
