Good afternoon from the CNN Center in Atlanta, I'm Naamua Delaney. Here are some of the headlines Now In The News.
Thousands of people worldwide are celebrating, protesting, or rallying on this day dedicated 1 to honoring workers' rights. In the United States many groups seeking rights for illegal immigrants are again using May Day to promote their cause. Police expect demonstrations 2 to be smaller and calmer than last year's. Rallies are planned in New York, Chicago, Washington and many other cities. Supporters also want an end to immigration raids.
Flood waters are finally falling in Maine. The Saint John River crested 3 at a record of 30 feet in Fort Kent. That's about 5 feet above flood stage. Flooding is still widespread on both sides of the Canadian border. More than 100 homes are flooded and hundreds of people had to flee. The river never spilt over a major levee sparing the downtown area.
Two earthquakes shook up parts of southern California overnight. A 4.4-magnitude quake rattled 4 Backfields, north of Los Angeles. There were no reports of any injures or damage. It came just a few hours after a 4.2-magnitude quake hit the E-Palm Springs area. That one was felt 100 miles away.
Magician David Blaine is claiming the world record for holding his breath. He did it for 17 minutes oh, and four seconds while submerged in a large tank of water in front of a live studio audience on the Oprah Show. The current record is 16 minutes 32 seconds. Boy, does he look tired.
