Lianne Smith admits killing 1 her children and has described in detail how she suffocated 2 them by putting plastic bags over their heads. But the jury in the Spanish city of Girona would decide whether she is criminally responsible or whether she was mentally ill. They've been shown a video recorded by police in the hotel where the children died.

What happened during a day or during last night in this room?
        I’m delivering an extort 3
        Delivery, yes, of course.
I ended the lives of my 2 children.
        In the room.
And I tried to end my life, so that’s why.
In what of time did you, did you kill your 2 children?
        Between at 8 and 8:30 p.m.
What did you do then? Did you immediately try to commit suicide, what happened then?
I, I lay off beside, and I talked to them.
They are not on, on continued conscious.
And then I need a bed, I need a home and then met them in the bathroom.
Did your children want to stay in the bathroom and then you tried to commit a suicide?
        In the bathroom, yes.
When Lianne Smith was first arrested, her arms were bandaged. Evidences of a possible suicide attempt. The court has heard the backgrounds of the killings 4 and the family had fled Britain and lived in this Barcelona apartment when her partner Martin Smith was accused of sexually abusing a child. How, when he was tracked down and extradited, she felt her children would be taken from her and put them into a care. She checked into a hotel in the Costa Brava resort of Lloret de Mar 5. And after hiding for 3 days, she decided 6 to kill 5-year-old Rebecca and 11-month-old Daniel rather than to lose them to social workers. She spent a night with the bodies and following day she asked the hotel receptionist to call the police. Lianne Smith said calm in court listing the evidence, her lawyer said, she had a panic to have lost contact with reality, believing in there was a threat to the lives of her and her children. The prosecutor 7 has called for her jail term of 38 years saying the children were totally incapable 8 of defending themselves.
