[08:44.62]I teach in harbin, the capital of Heilongjiang Province.
[08:48.85]This is really an intersting city with a very colorful history.
[08:54.10]There is some European influence in the city, and some of the old build-ings in harbin are in russian style.
[09:02.28]Since I came to China, I've been learning 12 a lot about my family history.
[09:08.13]Although I'm Australian, my family is jewish 13.
[09:12.46]SO it was very interesting for me to learn that a lot of jews 14 came to live in Harbin many years ago.

[09:23.83]In fact, the first Jews probably came to kaifeng more than a thousand years ago, and were welcomed by the Song Emperor.
[09:32.60]When I lived in Australia, I studied history at school, but we usually studied Australian or western history.
