Popular chat app teaches users to spot fake 100 yuan bank notes
On Wednesday the China Banknote Printing and Minting Corporation and tech giant Tencent launched a new feature in Tencent’s popular instant messaging app QQ that can help people in China to spot fake bank notes in their wallet.
Beijing Youth Daily reports that when QQ app users scan the front side of the most recent series of 100 yuan bill, a video appears that shows viewers the note's anti-counterfeiting features. These include ink that changes color, which has been used in the printing of the "100", and an extra serial 1 number, a security line and a watermark.
The new feature was launched as part of celebrations for the 70th anniversary of the issuing of the first series of China's currency, the Renminbi. The fifth series of the currency, which is the most recent series of coins and notes in circulation, was issued by the People's Bank of China in 1999. It was upgraded in 2005 and again in 2015 with improved anti-counterfeiting features.
