比尔盖茨北大演讲：慈善无关钱多少
This morning, Microsoft man and the second richest man in the world, Bill Gates, gave a speech at Peking University in Beijing to reach out to students about the important of charity.
It’s no surprise that Bill Gates would choose such a high calibre educational institution to give a speech about giving. Peking University, amongst Tsinghua and Fudan University rank in the top three schools in China, thereby 1 often producing the most successful and powerful people in China’s future. Bill Gates is also a trustee of Peking University.
Since leaving the helm of Microsoft, Bill Gates has devoted 2 himself to the role of Chairman of the Gates Foundation. The foundation’s belief is that “all lives have equal value” and seeks to help people live healthy and productive 3 lives and lift themselves out of poverty. The foundation has already funded initiatives 4 totalling US$24.8 billion from 1994.
In his speech, Gates encouraged students to start thinking about charity and giving early. Gates believes that the young generation play a pivotal role in making the world a better place by leading social trends. He also talked about the importance of innovation 5, noting breakthrough may take a long time but it is what is needed to “promote the development of mankind.”

11日上午，“盖茨与北大学生面对面”活动在北京大学英杰交流中心举行。在发表简短的演讲后，比尔·盖茨与同学们的交流话题聚焦在成功与责任、创新与慈善。
有同学问：大学生有热情，但能力有限，可以做什么来贡献于慈善事业？盖茨回答说，一个人在年轻时开始思考慈善非常好，虽然你没有足够的钱来做捐献，但你可以去思考慈善，可以走出校园，去比较贫穷的地方做调研，去了解那里的人们需要什么。同时，年轻人也有很多创新的投身慈善事业的方法，比如做志愿服务、参与社会实践。
“伴随社会发展，慈善事业必须能够让大家都享受到社会发展所带来的成果，年轻人可以在其中发挥最大的作用。”盖茨说，“平等的理念由年轻人来发扬是最好不过了。年轻人还可以影响那些年龄大的、事业有成的人。”
近年来，慈善事业成为微软创始人比尔·盖茨的工作重心。面对北大爱心社的同学，他说，各国政府都在不断努力帮助弱势群体，但是仅依靠政府的力量还远远不够，慈善事业需要志愿者的参与。学生社团组织是一个起点，类似的非盈利性社团组织可以影响周边的人。
针对有关艺术品捐赠的提问，盖茨坦言自己不是专家，他所从事的慈善事业更多地关注“能否改善人们的生活，拯救他们的生命”；针对创新与国际问题解决，他呼吁大家把更多的创新思维投注到全球变暖、粮食危机、贫富差距等问题；针对如何将梦想变为现实，他建议年轻人寻找伙伴或朋友，互相鼓励来完成漫漫征途。
无论是与其妻成立比尔及梅琳达·盖茨基金会，还是与巴菲特共同掀起“裸捐”风潮，盖茨的人生理念无疑影响着包括中国在内的世界各国青年。
“世界发展到今天，并非所有人都能享受发展所带来的益处。”盖茨说，“我们可以用创造力促进沟通，通过促进大家对世界的了解，来促进全球问题的解决，使每个人都能平等地生活。”
一小时的交流活动结束时，全场响起的热烈掌声回应着盖茨的倡议。
