Investigators 3 from the US Senate have delivered a damning indictment 4 of CIA interrogation practices carried out after the 9/11 attacks.
In a 500-page summary, the Senate Intelligence Committee accuses the agency of inflicting 5 pain and suffering on prisoners with tactics that went well beyond legal limits.
The report found that the torture tactics used by CIA, including "waterboarding," were more brutal 6 than what the agency has previously 7 acknowledged.
The interrogation program was devised by a couple of CIA contractors 8 to squeeze information from suspects after the Sept. 11 attacks in 2001.
The program ran from 2002 to 2006 and involved questioning al-Qaeda and other captives in secret detention 9 facilities in various countries.
