Chinese President Xi Jinping is calling on Asian countries to promote unity 1, cooperation, and the development of the continent.
He made the call at the ongoing 2 fourth summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia.
Over 20 international leaders, including 11 heads of state, are attending the summit in Shanghai, which run through today.
CICA member states are expected to issue a Shanghai Declaration on commitments to strengthening strategic coordination 3.
At the meantime, China and Russia have issued a joint 4 statement, vowing 5 to beef up bilateral 6 cooperation in a wide range of fields.
The statement follows a meeting between the presidents of the two nations at that summit in Shanghai.
The two leaders have also overseen 7 the start of a joint military exercise in the East China Sea.
Although a much anticipated gas deal has not been finalized 8 just yet, the two countries have vowed 9 to deepen cooperation in the petroleum 10 industry, kick-start Russia's supply of natural gas to China as soon as possible and jointly 11 develop coal mines in Russia.
