英语中很多常用词汇的意义随着时代的变迁不断地发生着变化,go south就是其中一例。
看到It's gone south,你可能会脱口而出是“去南方啊”!但是实际上很多情况下已经没有以上的意思了,而是变为了“情况越来越糟糕”的意思。
下面我们来看一个句子:Ice cream 4 sales 5 go south since 6 it is nearly 7 winter.(这里是指销量下降)。
当我们使用to go south/to head south的比喻义时,其表达的意思是"下降,变坏;数量、质量或价值的减少"。这里值得注意的是,我们要将to go south与to go to the south/to go down to the south区分开来
