The Trayvon Martin's case has struck the future of the stand you ground law in question, bot just in Florida but all over the country. Our Josh Levs here will look at what the laws are like in your state. Yeah, and Robin 1, you and I were talking earlier about the effect of Florida, now it has a task force, this is gonna look into their stand your ground law and try to decide what you've done about it, give recommendation, this case has created debate across the whole country, and all sorts of states people in very statute 2 looking at their state laws right now, and saying do we have that law? do we need to change our laws? what they say no matter what it's happening with us. that life, even if it is determined 3 weapon on the plan to the Trayvon Martin's case. So what we have from our folks at HEN TV.com right now is fantastic brief down of every state and what the stand your ground laws are with the other laws, so what we have here, first of all, are 18 states in which our folks determine you can reasonably set up stand your ground laws, I won't take time to read every single state, but I will tell you about these, the ones that have the stand your ground law, you get Alabama, Arizona, Colorado, Florida, George, Indiana,Kentucky,Louisiana, Maine, Mississippi, Montana,Nevada,New Hampshire,Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas and Utah, in each case, you have some different language, but you do have laws that are similar in the basic idea to stand your ground.
Now this is something else that a lot of states have their habit, a lot of states have some that are called castle doctor, as we know, let me tell you the difference. stand your ground applies to this idea, but in certain cases, it is ok to use force if you feel threatened, well, castle doctorine refers to being on your own property, and in some states, authorities have determined that the judicial 4 system has determined your own property can be more than your home, maybe it's your car, it's your work place, but if you feel threatened, you have the right to meet force with force or to use force when you feel threatened. So castle doctorine, and all the states you see here, then it's interesting, this pattern we have in this country, different laws in different states. A few states are but actually requiring you to retreat if you feel threatened in certain situation. You have a handful of states right there that have both laws that say even if you feel threatened, you must retreat in Iowa and Alaska, Virginia and Vermont. I am gonna show you two more that show you it will become complexity 5 and adversity of laws in this country, they said Washington actually doesn't have a statute, but the statue supreme 6 court has said there is no duty to retreat if you are assaulted where you were legally, lawfully 7 allowed to be and one more interesting one here, folks, take a look at New Mexico, the law there they are allowed, justice F signed in defense 8 of property of the courts of the rule can not use it, in case it's just trans*, so what we've got here is a * of complicated laws, and now states all over this country, are taking a look at their laws and saying how could a case like this play out here. Let's take look at the website, I want all you to see it, it's interactive 9, and you can see your state, you can click on it and read actual language of the law in your state, I have linked it for you up my pages on the Facebook and Twitter, Josh Levs CNN, and my blog CNN.com
What you'd see your state law being in power with that knowledge, as we see the next stage in the SB wrap for the whole country. Good information, I go to look at the side to get more because every state is different in those laws, you need to be reading thoroughly 10 before I will, you got a situation, right? Alright, Josh, thanks very much.
