Vince Gill于1957年4月12日出生于美国奥克拉荷马州的诺曼（Norman），原名Vince Grant Gill。Gill从10岁开始学习吉他，中学时代加入当地一支叫“山雾”（Mountain Smoke）的乡村摇滚乐队，后来加入乐队Pure Prairie League担任主唱。1983年推出首张个人专辑《Turn Me Loose》，专辑中的单曲“Victim of Life's Circumstances”在 1984年获得乡村排行的第四十名，并且夺得了“乡村音乐学院”（ACM）的年度最佳新进男歌手大奖。
在这首歌曲中，与Vince Gill合唱的Sheryl Crow是上个世纪90年代以来最受欢迎的摇滚乐女歌手之一，她的音乐风格独树一帜，曾四度问鼎格莱美最佳摇滚女歌手奖。
