《泪洒天堂》是艾里克·克莱普顿献给他死去的儿子的。1991年，克莱普顿4岁的儿子由于保姆的不慎意外坠楼身亡，这个打击几乎让他一蹶不振。从此他寄情于音乐，用不间断的创作缓解难以负荷的伤痛，用至情至胜的歌声超度死者的灵魂：

    他的歌声苍凉悲壮却又柔情似水，能够净化人的灵魂。克莱普顿凭借这首歌一举夺得1993年格莱美奖的6项大奖。

    艾里克·克莱普顿(Eric Clapton)

    素有“吉他之神”美誉的英国摇滚巨星艾里克·克莱普顿生于1945年，早年曾是一位布鲁斯乐手，后来成为重型摇滚乐的先锋之一。他在音乐界显赫的声望有一半来自现场精湛的吉他演奏。90年代后的第一张专辑就是他在1990-91年间于伦敦皇家亚伯厅的多场现场实况记录《24 Nights》，而在此之前他也发行过将近十套现场即兴表演的音乐专辑。

    克莱普顿的音乐松弛自然，演唱深切感人。1993年，他因为一曲《泪洒天堂（Tear in Heaven）》一举摘得当年格莱美的6项大奖；1997年他又因演唱《改变世界（Change the World）》而荣获格莱美的最佳男声歌曲奖。
