Thousands of Journalists in London Cover Olympics 24/7
While the athletes are out competing for medals, journalists are busy reporting the news.
Thousands of journalists have been accredited 1 to cover the Olympics.
And with the Games progressing at a fast pace, for reporters, having access to fast and accurate information is key.
Journalists watch the Games as they happen, choose from hundreds of press releases for the latest news on all the competitions and surrounding events. They power up their computers, connect to the internet, and get working.
“We recognize that the media is a 24-hour business. We are working to deadlines all around the world that is why we are a 24-hour operation. And we want to keep everybody as comfortable as possible during their stay with us,” said Amanda Keegan, the main Press Center Manger.
It’s not all hard work. Journalists can have a drink, pick up a souvenir from the Games, or take care of finances at the bank.
Keegan says they tried to think of everything.
“We’ve planned for a lot of supplementary 2 services. We have lots of catering 3 facilities; we try to keep the media happy in that respect. We have a salon 4, we have a massage 5 center, we have medical center and pharmacy 6 and two bars to keep everybody happy and a lot of other services just to make people’s stays more comfortable,” Keegan said.
Keegan says it’s all about making sure the coverage 7 runs without a hitch 8.
