  I: Do you have any special interests other than your job?
  C: Yes. Taking pictures is my special interest. / Yes. My chief interest is watching horse-races. / Yes. Music and painting are my two great interests inltfe.
  I: What are your personal interests?
  C: My personal interests are collecting coins and stamps. / Table tennis and swimming are my personal interests. / My chief personal interest is to collect antiques 1.
  I: Do you have a hobby?
  C: Yes. I like reading and fishing. / Yes. I enjoy listening to classical music. / Yes. I'm fond of calligraphy 2.
  I: What kinds of hobbies do you have?
  C: I like collecting calligraphical works and paintings. / I enjoy sports. / I'm fond of playing the piano.
  I: What are your hobbies?
  C: My hobbies are cooking every day and dancing on weekends. / Playing chess is my hobby. / Playing computer games and playing bridge are my two great hobbies.
  I: What do you do when you are not working?
  C: I usually read books or straighten my house or go shopping. / On weekends I sometimes make an excursion to the suburbs with my family. / I often go mountain-climbing with rny friends on Sundays.
  I: How do you spend your free (leisure, spare ) time?
  C: I play the violin together with a group of friends. / I run or play basketball or do something else like that to get some exercises to keep fit. / I spend my free time in doing some sculpture with clay.
  I: What do you do for recreation?
  C: I sometimes go to the sing-high club on weekends. / I usually listen to pop music for recreation. / In summer I like swimming and in winter I generally play football.
  I: How do you entertain yourself after work?
  C: I usually watch TV for entertainment. / I sometimes go to the concert (theater, cinema) with my family. / I generally entertain myself in sports ( reading,painting).
  I: What kinds of sports do you like? And do you play or watch?
  C: I enjoy almost all sports. And prefer playing to watching. / I like gymnastics. I was on the gymastics team all through middle school. / I'm a football fan. But I don't play and just enjoy watching football matches.
  I: What kinds of books do you like?
  C: I like detective novels. / I'm fond of scientific fiction. / I enjoy readittg biographies 3, especially those of well known statesmen 4, militairists*, scientists, and rtists. I can learn a lot from their life histories.
  I: Who are your favorite authors ?
  C: Lu Shun 5 and Ba Jin are my favorite authors. / My favorite Chinese authors are Lao She, Mao Dun, and Cao Yu. And my favorite foreign men of letters are Shakespeare, Gorky, and Whitman. / I like the novels of Dickens very mach. I've read almost all of them in Chinese translation. I wish I could read them in the original1 hear they're even better then.
  I: Do you drink?
  C: No, not a bit. / Yes, a little. / Yes, I do. But I never drink to excess.
  I: Do you smoke? / Are you a smoker 6?
  C; No, I don't (am not). / Yes, just during social ccasions. I never like it. / Yes, but I'm not a heavy smoker.
