This is a great typical mall, it's a kind of, like electronics bazaar 1 with stalls everywhere, selling the latest in mobile phones at cut rate prices and it's pretty clear who the market winner is-Blackberry. They beat the iPhone hands down. In fact, telecommunication 2 research groups believe that there are five times as many Blackberries sold as IPhones.
This seller tells us it's because the Blackberry caters 3 for everyone from the top to the bottom and in between and there's a great variety of prices, he says.
One reason is price. The Blackberry is far cheaper than the iPhone. In fact, the Blackberry sells here for about $500 and iPhone sells for about $900 and it's especially cheaper if you buy one that's been smuggled 4 in tax free. In fact, research groups believe that most of the Blackberries bought in Indonesia are bought on the gray market.

Indonesia's Internet infrastructure 5 is also still quite patchy. It's expensive and not very reliable to get a broadband connection, but getting a mobile phone that's web enabled is easy and cheap.
