  January – Melbourne
While spending Christmas in Australia is both surreal and wonderful, December weather can be a little unpredictable in Melbourne, so January is prime time to go.
There's also no better antidote 1 to those European winter blues 2, but if you want to go at the most cost-effective time, go just before the Australian Open starts.
  February – Hong Kong
As a city with a reputation as a shopping utopia, it's worth noting that February is ideal for bargain-hunting since this is when most stores, malls and markets tend to offer great out-of-season sales.
  March – Buenos Aires
Buenos Aires is at its best in March, when it's just turning into autumn but still warm enough not to need a jumper.
At this time you'll find an abundance of free events and street markets, in addition to the city's year-round elegant and vibrant 3 appeal.
  April – San Francisco
April is one of the most inviting 4 months to visit the hilly, historic and unique Californian city of San Francisco as the weather is fresh and sunny, with endless blue skies and mild temperatures.
  May - London
London is never going to be cheap and the week before the May bank holiday will always see a price hike but the following week tends to be cheaper.
For 2016, the May bank holiday falls on the May 2, so the weeks before and after will be the deal hunter's best bet.
  June – Beijing
Just before Beijing's oppressive summer heat hits, June sits on the cusp of the tourist season.
Prices are still relatively 5 low and the city not too crowded as there aren't any big Chinese national holidays, plus the weather is hot but not unbearable 6.
  July – Sydney
Even though July is Sydney's winter, the city's subtropical climate means it is blessed with blue skies and pleasant temperatures even in its coldest months.
  August – New York
New York summers are notoriously hot and stuffy 7 but towards the end of August, temperatures tend to drop to a pleasant degree.
  September - Rome
Rome, like London, is rarely "cheap", but a good time to go to get more bang for your buck 8 is September.
  October - Cape 9 Town
By October, Cape Town's local flora 10 is bursting into bloom and visitors can enjoy mild, sunny weather and temperatures hover 11 around the mid-twenties and the days lengthen 12 as the month goes on.
  November – Rio de Janiero
Carnival 13 in Rio may have its allure 14 but as with Cape Town, spring brings sunshine, cheaper accommodation rates and fewer tourists.
If you don't mind missing the festival excitement, November means more space to sprawl 15 out on Rio's golden beaches.
  December – Las Vegas
For a fun-filled, thrilling getaway in the run up to Christmas, Las Vegas is fantastic.
