With increasing access to the internet and soaring popularity of distance learning many people begin to choose to study online for diplomas rather than go to universities. An argument accordingly arose, that is, is the internet going to replace universities. From my point of view universities cannot be replaced by the internet. First, although the existence of the internet has changed the way people read and write, and made diversified 1 learning materials and methods come true, it is not able to take the place of books and teachers which are indispensable to higher education. Traditional education in universities will still be in the dominant 2 position. Second, university life is essential for college students to enhance their abilities of communication and social adapt ability besides acquiring knowledge and skills. Last but not least, it is only under the standard university management system that the check and evaluation 3 of students achievement can be guaranteed. In conclusion ,internet will not be a rival of universities. Instead it will become a helpful supplement to traditional education. With the internet service university life will be significantly enriched.
