While Mickey Mouse may look young forever, his cheerful home will celebrate its 58th birthday on July 17th, as Walt Disney built his first theme park on that date in 1955, in Anaheim, California (just outside of Los Angeles of Los Angeles).
Since that day, over 650 million people have visited Sleeping Beauty’s Castle, shared adventures with the Pirates 1 of the Caribbean, and thrilled to the Main Street Electrical Parade. Known as “the Happiest Place on Earth,” Disney has added theme parks in Florida, Tokyo, Paris, and Hong Kong, to the original Los Angeles location. The Shanghai Disney Resort 2 is now under construction, and it is expected to open in 2016.
