Thirty elderly [dict]cyclist[/dict]s began a 2,000-km journey from Taiwan that would take them to Shanghai, Nanjing and Beijing. The eldest 3 member of the group, Kang Meng-lin, 84, said, "We completed an islandwide 931-km ride in 12 days in 2007. We are confident that we can successfully make this 2,000 km journey to Beijing." "The group hit the road with the dream of conquering the 2,000-km challenge," Lee said. The purpose of the ride is to send the message that "dreaming is not a prerogative 4 of young people only, and getting old is not the end of life," he said. Concern & Care [dict]Society[/dict], which Lee helped to found in 2001, has recruited retirees as volunteers to visit elderly people alone.
