  It is the fifth of December ,1945.


  Five airplane crewmen are ready for a trainning flight from Fort Lauderdale,Florida.They will fly in a triangle.They will fly east for 160 miles.Then they will turn north for 40 miles,and turn southwest back to their base.It will be a normal flight on a nomal day.


  The planes have the best radios and the most reliable instruments.Each plane has life rafts.Each man has a life jacket.The pilots are very experienced.


  The planes leave just after two in the afternoon.The crewmen plan to land again at four.At three forty-five,the commander,checks his position with the other pilots.


  "I'm not sure where we are.I can't see land."


  The ground controllers at the base wait.There is no radar 4.They can't help the men in the air.They can only wait.
