We're beginning with President Obama's plan to fix the economy. It goes before House lawmakers today, they're gonna vote on that 825-billion-dollar economic stimulus 1 package. The plan is to prop 2 up the economy through government spending and tax cuts. Now the President is hoping to sign the bill by mid-February.
Special voting under way now in Iraq ahead of this weekend's provincial 3 elections. Iraq's security forces, detainees and hospital patients get to cast their ballots 4 early. Some 600,000 people are expected at the polls today and millions more on Saturday.
After getting a key Republican endorsement 5, the Senate Judiciary Committee is finally ready to vote on Eric Holder 6. Senator Arlen Specter says he will support Holder's confirmation 7 for attorney general. Last week's planned vote on Holder was held up over questions about pardons approved during the final days of the Clinton administration. Holder would become the nation's first African-American attorney general if he is confirmed.
A wicked winter storm to tell you about now accidents and elegies 8 from Texas all the way over to Delaware and the Northeast is in for it today. The storm already is blamed for at least 19 deaths, power is out at hundreds of thousands of homes and many could be in the dark for days. Hundreds of schools and government offices are closed.
AAA is reporting the national average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is $1.84, which is actually up two-tenth of a cent from yesterday. Four states have gas prices above two dollars. The cheapest gas can be found in Wyoming; right now they're paying $1.50.
