The swollen 1 Mississippi River is giving residents of at least one Louisiana town something ever reprieved 2. Evacuations that were supposed to become mandatory 3 in Butte La Rose today had been put on hold. Most have already left, but officials there now say the Mississippi River might not get as high as feared; they put evacuations off for a couple of days. Other towns are bracing 4 for flooding. Carl Kraemer, the emergency management director of Morgan City, is hopping 5 for the best.
