1. North Korea declares Kim Jong Un supreme 1 leader. The announcement was made at a memorial service for the younger Kim's father, the late North Korean president Kim Jong Il.
2. Iran is holding a ten-day military exercise in international waters. That country is also threatening to shut down the Strait of Hormuz if the US imposes sanctions against Iran's crude exports. One sixth of the world's oil passes through the Strait of Hormuz. The Pentagon says any Iranian attempts to close it won't be tolerated.
3. Turkey's news agency says the Turkish military attacked Kurdish rebel sites near the border with Iraq. More than 20 people were killed. A local Kurdish official says most of those killed were smugglers, not rebels.
4. And an Associated Press survey of economists 2 found most agreed President Obama's handling of economy either fair or poor. Two thirds of the economists said that of all the Republicans running for president, Mitt 3 Romney would do the best job managing the economy.
